Memphis is a big city in Shelby County, Tennessee that is recognized as the home of Elvis Presley and as the birthplace of the blues. Elvis's home, Graceland, is only one of the many exciting sites and attractions that you will want to see while visiting Memphis. The Memphis in May Festival attracts people from around the world to compete in the International BBQ cooking contest. This festival draws thousands to the banks of the Mississippi River for live concerts and the Sunset Symphony. Downtown Memphis rises from a bluff along the Mississippi River, and the city sprawls outward over southwest Tennessee and into northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. Several large parks are scattered through the city, notably Overton Park in Midtown.

Visit the National Civil Rights Museum on the site of the old Lorraine Motel. Have a lazy day canoeing the Wolf River or splashing around at Mud Island. Grab some mouthwatering Memphis barbecue for lunch-there is something tasty on just about every corner. Not to mention, music everywhere you turn. Get a taste of Memphis music and nightlife in the Beale Street Historic District, learn about the giants of soul at the Stax Museum of American Soul, or walk in Elvis' shoes in the famous Sun Studio. And don't forget to stop by a few Memphis landmarks that offer fun for the whole family: The Pink Palace Museum, with its IMAX and planetarium, the Peabody Hotel, where the ducks still go marching in, and the Memphis Zoo, where you can meet the giant pandas Ya Ya and Le Le. It's a city of music and food and history and heritage, all of it moving to the rhythm of the mighty Mississippi River.
